1040 Initiative.

Nionan village in Côte d'Ivoire is also called New Hope Village, and a school in Tanda carries a plaque with our name. Both grew out of our years with 1040 Initiative, a nonprofit that brings education, health care and clean water to communities there.

About 1040i.

1040 Initiative is a nonprofit that brings clean water, health care and education to communities in Côte d'Ivoire, where most people live on less than $2 a day.

Its founder, Mike Cousineau, has given 50 years to the people of Côte d'Ivoire. Dieudonné, whose story is below, calls him Papa Mike.

The goal is for these communities to thrive one day without outside help. 25 Ivorians already serve on 1040i's staff, and volunteers from more than 25 states, New Hope's teams among them, have made over 20 trips since 2010.

Where we serve together.

  • TandaHome of the Tanda Bilingual Academy. New Hope helped fund the school, and a plaque there carries our name.

The academy began as an elementary school and now teaches elementary, middle and high school students. Classes run in French and English, with ethics, technology and leadership built in.

Tanda sits in eastern Côte d'Ivoire, near the Ghana border.

  • DoropoWhere medical and construction teams work.

Doropo is in the far northeast, near the Burkina Faso border. Each year 1040i's medical team sets up a full hospital in Côte d'Ivoire, with surgeries, clinics, a pharmacy and post-op care, and New Hope's teams have served there.

  • Nionan villageNew Hope Village. A lot of its buildings went up with gifts given through New Hope, and our teams helped build some of them.

One of them is the dormitory, painted with the name Dortoir New Hope.

  • AbengourouWhere 1040i plans its next school.

Abengourou, in the southeast near the Ghana border, has about 90,000 school-aged children and only two religious schools. 1040i is planning a kindergarten and an elementary school there.

Our years together.

For years, teams from New Hope have gone to Côte d'Ivoire to serve with 1040i: a medical mission, teaching for pastors, construction work and a kids' fest like VBS.

We've given, too. Gifts through New Hope helped build Nionan village and helped fund the school in Tanda.

Dieudonné says thank you.

Dieudonné started out walking kilometers every day to get to school. Today he studies in English at the University of Bouaké, and he recorded this message for our church.

Hello to the New Hope Church, and hello to the Salon family.

My name is Hien Sié Dieudonné, and I am making this video from Côte d'Ivoire to express my deepest gratitude to all of you.

First of all, I want to express my special thanks to my father, Mike Cousineau, for his unwavering support. It is thanks to him that I met all of you. I'm deeply grateful, and may God bless you infinitely.

Looking back at where I started, walking kilometers every day just to go to school, I know that I'm only where I am today because of God's grace and your incredible generosity.

Thank you, New Hope Church, for your faithful financial assistance over the years. Your support has allowed me to pursue my university studies in English at the University of Bouaké without giving up.

A very special thank you to the Salon family. Your generosity has allowed me, or provided me, with the tablet that I need for my study. This tablet has been an invaluable tool for my academic success.

You did not just give me financial help. You gave me a hope, you gave me a future, and the opportunity to excel.

May God richly bless New Hope Church, bless the Salon family, bless Papa Mike Cousineau, and all of you for everything you have done in my life. Thank you so much, and God bless you. Take care of yourself. I love you so much, and I hope to see you very soon.

Right now: a classroom in Abengourou.

1040i is planning a new school in Abengourou: a kindergarten and an elementary school, built to serve children and their families while making the love of Jesus known.

90,000

is about how many school-aged children live in Abengourou. The city has only two religious schools.

Walk through the plan. Come in from the road, step into the kindergarten courtyard, cross to the two-story elementary school and look out from its upper balcony. A 3D concept based on 1040i's renderings, with no sound. The finished school may look different.

$30,715

is what we're aiming for: the cost of one elementary classroom.
