Benifits of the Mission this year
- Give a man a fish, he eats for a day… Teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime… Resource the man who teaches men to fish, many eat for a lifetime.
- Communicate importance of local missions as well as foreign missions
- Lower costs = more people can be involved
- Partnering with neighboring Churches and businesses
- Community Building
- Breaking down denominational and social barriers
- Participating in the restoration of a historical landmark
- Being a part of God’s big plan. Many churches have been here before us, building and painting. It is evident God is at work and wiling to allow us to continue his work at CCC

Thanks for taking the time to consider youth missions at New Hope Community Church.
About Youth Missions
According to Jim Burns (a 25+ year veteran of Youth For Christ) Youth ministry was officially started through YFC (Billy Graham became the first paid staff person) about 60 years ago. Since then there have been many incremental progressions in youth ministry. One of such changes was the addition of youth mission trips. Interestingly, many churches were not exposed to missions work (accept through local service) until their youth began taking trips to foreign locations. I believe the purposes and value of youth mission work is clearer today than ever before.
Purpose- The Three Fold Flock.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. This is the Justification event. It is the grace of God not by works lest he boast. When we truly accept Christ as our Lord and payment for the penalty of our sins we are cleared once and for all of our transgressions; past, present and future. (Just as if I'd never sinned) Behold, we are a new creation! This is the most exciting and liberating news in the entire universe! Yet we quickly discern this new creation we have become, readily behaves like the old creation we once were. We fall under the pressures of temptation and become as to how we got there. As we mature in Christ we realize that the changes of obedience come with time and through challenges. This is the sanctification process James 1:4 (NIV) Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. We, The Good Sheppard's flock, can develop some of these important sanctification changes during a mission trip. The "flock" in our case is three fold.
Flock one- New Hope Kids
- Out of their comfortable environment, students' ears are tuned for the Lord's word and their hearts are eager for His security, hope and peace.
- Humbleness is gleaned though observation of true contentment in the face of poverty.
- Devotion is taught by insisting that our time with God be paramount even while on a mission, confronted by time consuming obstacles and when the demands of the day are pulling in many directions.
- A stronger sense of Community is cultivated as old relationships are bonded, new relationships are developed and everyone draws near under pretenses like: Praising God, Affirmation of one another, Supper, Servant-hood, Trials,
- Missions are not too mature of a subject for students to grasp. It is in fact ideal for them to learn early that missions work blankets both the beloved afar and in our backyards as well.
Flock Two- Kids in Mexico
- VBS
Evangelism, energy, hope
Flock Three- Adults and Youth Leaders
- Go with anticipation of changing another's life and come back changed themselves.
- All of the benefits of flock one
- a better understanding of the students behaviors, lingo and mannerisms
- Develop a bond of trust with students allowing us to better speak into their lives back home.
It's about relationships:
The relationship we embrace with Jesus prompts us to pursue His greatest commandments; love the Lord (a vertical/invisible relationship) and likewise love His people (a horizontal/visible relationship). When these people mass collectively we become church bodies. When Church bodies serve, learn and pray together (see Acts 2:42) - unity within the body of Christ is developed. Finally when Unity becomes the normal practice, Harmony is offered to our King as a pleasing aroma. It's a relational circle by which we can know God more fully and of which we can miss out if one breaks the cycle.
Residual effects
- Believe it or not the building project itself is a lesser (yet key) element of a youth mission trip. The project is something which moth, rust and decay will someday destroy. Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV) "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. However, the project is a physical and tangible representation of the invisible and indestructible work constructed on our hearts by the Master Carpenter. The project is essential also for the motivation, promoting and fund raising of the trip. Without it there can be no trip. The building project is key but the final product of our hand pales in comparison to the incredible work God does in our heart.
- We leave behind a structure which provides warmth to a family or a church to a community and a representation of God's love.
- Others in the community witness what is happening and become interested in who Jesus is.
- Mission trips are not a "mountain top" experience. It's not a flash in the pan which burns up quickly. (Seed which falls in the rocks- Mt.13:20-21) The changes made on mission trips are often life altering.
- Baptisms- what a great opportunity to declare among friends and family the new creation we have become.
There have been many testimonies of lives forever changed on mission trips. One which sticks out in my mind is;
In the parking lot before the big night I asked Vince Antonino, "Why are you giving so much of your life, resources and energy to the pie auction?"
As he pulled another famous dessert from the trunk of his car and while his eyes began to well up he replied, "The Mexico Mission trip changed my daughter's life. She wanted nothing to do with us and was headed no where but she truly gave her life to Jesus in Mexico and has been a different person ever since."
Finally, it is through our obedient and diligent mission work that we adhere to the commands of Matthew 28:16-20 (NIV) Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
These awesome words have been wisely dubbed "The Great Commission" yet I might interject co-mission. The missions work through New Hope could not be achieved to the same degree of success without its' many cooperative efforts. Countless committed preparers, givers, builders and teachers spend a generous allowance of their energy, money and time. Why? I believe the answer s imbedded in our hopeful anticipation of The Lord response to our faithful fulfilling of His commands.
Please join us on the next Great Co-Mission experience.

Project 2007
Well there he is; Pastor Juan- standing on the roof of a structure three years in the making. At this rate he will never the finish the parsonage the congregation, "Torre Fuerte" has been dreaming of. The church needs work too. Sheetrock, Paint, patch the ceiling damaged from a roof leak two seasons ago. There just aren't enough funds to do the work. Take a look at the back ground. Sum 10 years ago the whole area was just a mountainside. Pastor Juan was gathering the poor in this village area every Sunday to meet under a tarp in the heat of day to praise their Lord, the Christ Child. Much has changed since we helped build a church for that family way back then. But the great poverty remains. Pastor Juan has been faithfully attempting to meet the needs in his community with the little resources he has. He has been running a bread pantry from the church, feeding his family and reaching out to the lost with a mere $40.00 per week. Due to practical difficulties we will likely be unable to serve in this area beyond this year, 2007. Wouldn't it be great to complete what we started ten years ago (the parsonage, the church and continued resourcing)? Wouldn't it be great to leave Pastor Juan and his family with all the tools they need to thrive in ministry? Let's do it!
NEH 2:18 NIV- I also told them about the gracious hand of my God upon me and what the king had said to me. They replied, "Let us start rebuilding." So they began this good work.
We did it!
Thanks to all the families who contributed to this.
You are AMAZING!

There is room for up to five homeless families to stay her and get back on their feet. They are given room, board , and the word. The vision is that they would see the light and confess their sins, learn a trade and the truth, then move in to the world proclaiming that truth and making room for another family.
